Starring Barack Obama as Faust

About a month ago I related to you the sad story of Laura Hershey, a handicapped woman forced to endure her fellow liberals counting down with glee as Terri Schiavo starved to death. The article (still in the April archives) was part of a larger reflection on how liberals are able to overlook the sickening behavior of other liberals in order to support their own pet cause.

One would hope that those chosen few who have risen through the Democratic ranks would be immune from this phenomenon; apparently not. Illinois Senator Barack Obama, considered by many to be a legitimate presidential candidate, is now officially the #1 fund-raiser for Senator Robert Byrd. Aside from being completely senile, Sen. Byrd is best known for being a former member of the KKK, as well as filibustering the 1964 Civil Rights Act (oh sweet hypocrisy).

I'm sure plenty of people on the Left will spin this as a great man demonstrating an extraordinary act of forgiveness, but forgive me if I don't shed a tear. Seeing as how the entire deal was put together by Moveon.org (a group Obama will need to court if he has any ambitions for higher office), this sorry spectacle is politics, pure and simple. Apparently Sen. Obama doesn't see the irony in endorsing an outspoken racist in order to become the first black president.

I am curious why you think liberals were "counting down with glee as Terri Schiavo starved to death." Noone wnated her to die but her life as it was was perpetual reliving of near death without a cure. Do you know of some way in which ehr life could have been made whoel again? Would you want to spend the rest of your life locked up inside your mind with little or no ability to respond or enjoy the good things in life around you? Doctors said there was no way to make her life good again and no new treatments on the way. The way Florida law prohibits lethal injection for patients is sad, but Schiavo is better off now. Thanks to the fight against stem-cell research, which is the most sure way to someday cure someone like Schiavo, it will be a long time before we find a way to fix injuries like hers. If conservatives want to help someone like Schiavo, they should stop fighting the research that may one day save lives. It's a matter of priorities. No need to mention how it takes a death to get a stem cell. Cloning fixes that. Liberals are not the ones on the wrong side here. Its contradictory to say you want to save lives while making those lives a living hell in the process. That is not life, it's damnation on earth.

The problem with your entire statement is that your projecting your will onto Terri. That was the entire issue, no one could conclusively say what she would have wanted, and in those cases I think it is best to err on the side of life.

Furthermore, it was never settled just how damaged she was, and once again, in the face of uncertainty we should hesitate to declare a death sentence.

I suggest you read the story I was referring to in my April post. It was a very liberal and very disabled woman arguing that no one but the individual should be able to decide someone's quality of life. You may think this woman's life is a living hell, but she treasures it.

Obama as Faust?

Goethe's Faust or Marlow's Faustus?

Since when do right wingers cotten to 'booklearning' from effing foreigners?

You write:

"Sen. Byrd is best known for being a former member of the KKK"

No he is not. You don't know what you are talking about. Do you so hate Bob Dole that when Bob Dole calls Byrd an admirable legend, you think Dle should die like you think Norman Mailer should die.

Byrds has apologized and been making amends for his Klan membership as a poor ignorant kid in the Hollow, for nearly 40 years.

"When I was a child I did childish things, but as an adult I put away childish things." ~St. Paul

Byrd, like all heroes grew and learned- Are you telling me that a right winger like yourself , if you grew up poor and ignorant and unaware of the wider world, would not have joined the Klan when Byrd did? You would not have been influenced by your elders.

Byrd made his mistake, and he has more than made up for it.

You may not have been a good Klan pledge, but you have Klan-like politics.

We know Byrd's youth.

What's your excuse?
